The BRASSETT Family

Newsletter

Proof Edition

This is the fist proof edition of The BRASSETT Family newsletter. Even though I have done this type of thing in the past, producing magazines and football programmes it has only been on a small time basis, Typing in Windows 3.1, printing on a Dot matrix printed, photocopying on an A4 Black and White copier.

So t first I’m not to sure how this is all going to turn out but I hope as I get used to my new computer with its hi-Tec software thins will improve.

Thanks to everyone who has emailed me to say they are interested in the idea of a Newsletter, I hope to produce a couple of proof editions over the next few weeks and then after some suggestions from you all, maybe issue every month.

Anyway that’s enough for now on to some news and a couple of ideas.

Brassett.net

Today I have purchased the Domain name above for the Brassett family web site, don’t go rushing to see what’s on the site as at present all I have is the name so that no one else can take it, as I found that other similar names i.e. brassett.com had already been taken.

I have made contact with a local company to host the page and I hope to contact a company called Bravenet who supply a notice board page were you can leave messages and keep in touch as easy as sending email.

I hope to have everything up and running within a few weeks, but don’t keep me to that. I will keep everyone informed on how things are going and I would welcome any ideas on content for the site.

I have noticed that many Brassett’s have either their own business or web site that are on the net so I will be looking to set up a links page to other sites

Birthday Message’s

Is your Birthday coming up soon? Mine is so that’s maybe why I thought of this. If I compile a list of everyone’s Date of Birth and then close to the day maybe 2 or 3 days before I will email everyone the details and we all send them a email birthday message on their birthday.

There are plenty of us with email addresses and if someone does not have email then we can send the messages to a family member who can print them off and pass them on to the persons on their birthday.

Just to see if this can work My sister Lynn Brassett now Lynn Osborn is 33 on Friday 20th July which is tomorrow, yes this is short notice but that’s how its going to work.

She does not have email but I do so if you send her messages to Northaw@hotmail.com I can pass them onto her tomorrow. She does not know about this so it will be a surprise, and even in the future when we do know that messages are coming it will still be nice to receive them, I HOPE

IS THIS A GOOD IDEA ====================================================================

Visit to my Roots

On Tuesday 17th July 2001 I made a trip to Fingford, Chetwode and Preston Bissett in Oxfordshire, England. This is where I have been able to trace with some help my section of the family back.

Going back to John Brassett who was born in Chetwode, he married Ann Edwards in 1696 they had 5 children, Mary, John, Susannah. Ann and William.

It is recorded that

Mary was born and died in the same year in Chetwode 1697.

John was born in Chetwode 1699 and married Mary Mitchel, 1723 in Buckingham.

Susannah was born in Chetwode 1701

Ann was born in Chetwode 1708 and married Thomas Chapman, 1730 in Buckingham

William was born in Chetwode 1712 and married Mary, William died in 1768 aged around 56 in Preston Bissett.

William had 7 children and that is were my family starts from at present, I have names of other Brassett’s in the area going back into the 1500’s but have to make a trip to the records office in Banbury to check further.

What I did find out was that no Brassett Family members are buried in the Fringford graveyard and the Preston Bissett graveyard has a large number of headstones that are unable to be read.

I have made contact with the church vicar and she is happy to let me see some historical records that the church has. I will keep you informed of my findings.
